Headed off today to Queenbeyan (15k out of Canberra) Trish and Jimmy have a Goddaughter there and we thought it would be a good base to expolre Canberra for a few days. First stop was a small town called Adelong where we checked out the falls and gold mill riuns that had been futher demolished in the big floods of 2010.
From there we went along the road to Gundegai where the dog sat on the tuckerbox! We had a lovely brunch at the park after checking out the old railway station, we also admired the view from the town lookout.
Lake Blowering reseviour was along the Snowy Mountain Highway which took us about an hour and a half to go 20K up and down and round and round the mountains. Almost killed the in laws car towing the caravan up throu there but it was worth it. The photo's after the lake are just a small idea of the view from these mountains. Will definatly have to come back one day in winter to see the snow but i will make sure we are well well well rugged up!
The last picture is a picture Sophie drew while we drove thru the mountains. It is her family and i thought it was pretty good exp as it is done on a magnadoodle board while we drove every which way!
The following pictures are Sawyers and Dalanys Cabins. These are historic huts that have been restored and also set up in case of emergency in snow times. Everything is supplied and the fire is laid ready to light though dispite the many signs for snow plows we did not see a single one! Wouldn't be because we were three months too early do you think?
We pulled into a little town just out of Cooma about 2.30 for a late lunch and decided we had better call ahead and book the caravan park. Lucky we did because we were soon to find that Cooma was the only place we would be staying that night. Every caravan park from Cooma on and up to Yass was booked out all weekend (including in Canberra)! We took pictures of the big Rainbow Trout and headed on to Cooma to spend the night in a cabin for a change.
